Grade II Listed Flint Cottage, Norfolk

Grade II Listed Flint Cottage, Norfolk

Flint arguably produces some of the UK’s most picturesque buildings. This cottage in rural North Norfolk is typical of many in the county and is constructed using mostly knapped flint with some handmade bricks around the openings and at the external angles.

Having a broad and detailed knowledge of regional styles and materials is essential for anyone specialising in the survey of historic buildings. The performance characteristics of solid masonry walls varies enormously and whilst flint and cobbles can be very attractive, they do have structural limitations and it is essential that these limitations are understood before drawing any conclusions.
