Grade II* Listed Moated Property, East Cheshire

Swineyard Hall in High Legh is a well known historic house with a long history dating back to medieval times. The houses is Grade II* and sits inside a much earlier moat, the site is a Scheduled Monument.

After being in the same farming family for generations, the new owners commissioned NPA to undertake a building survey including an invasive timber frame survey as well as a full suite of as built drawings, heritage statements and specifications for the repair and alteration of the building, listed building consent was granted in the autumn of 2020.

The house is built in several phases and although the timber frame gable seen in the photograph has C16 origins, this was heavily restored at the end of the C19. Additions were made to the building during the Victorian era but the house still retains many historic features. Typical of larger houses of this type, some areas were largely unchanged but inevitably there had been some damaging modern alterations. The current owners are now carefully undoing some of the more intrusive alterations and beginning a sensitive phase of repair and minor alteration to ensure the house has a sustainable future.
