Originally built as a single residence then later split into two cottages before becoming a public house in the C19, this attractive timber frame building is typical of many we inspect across Cheshire, Shropshire and parts of Wales.
To the casual observer, the building looks as if little has changed in 400 years, in fact, the majority of the building was dismantled in the late C20 and rebuilt using mostly the original material but with replacement infill panels. Leaks in timber frames are common especially when modern materials have been introduced. Developing an understanding of where and how leaks develop in a timber frame is something that requires years of experience and it is a skill that very few surveyors possess.
